During violent clashes in Dhummay village and surrounding areas between rival warring sub-clans in early October approximately 64 persons were killed including 3 women and 3 children. In addition to the killings, 114 persons were injured of which 35 have sustained critical injuries.

The protracted conflict between the rival warring sub-clans who reside in Las Anod and surrounding areas in Sool region dates back to 2004 which started over a mere hijacking of vehicle ferrying Khat that lead to deaths of civilians from the warring sub-clans and has led to subsequent conflict of emanating from unresolved disputes, resource and sharing since then.
