19-024-RO Alert on Floods in South Sudan
It is reported that between 7th – 10th Oct, 2019; many villages along the upper Nile region of South Sudan were washed away due to outburst of the river banks of gilo and sobat rivers. .This is due to heavy rainfall the region have been experiencing in the month of october leading to flooding in Greater upper Nile in South Sudan. Reports from Local humanitarian organisations in the area indicate that majority of the populations have been wholly or partially displaced with over 48416 people facing risk of food insecurity, communicable diseases and shelter. This calls for an urgent need for immediate and post crisis humanitarian interventions. The floods in South Sudan are just but a part of a series of many unprecedented problems the country has faced in the recent past. The floods just hit shortly after our partners on ground had informed us of food insecurity due to the protacted civil war, which had made it impossible for basic necessities and humanitarian agencies to reach already starving population within the region.
