Alert Note: Gaza Humanitarian Crisis

Tandsundhed Uden Grænser has submitted an alert due to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

More than 11,000 Palestinians have been killed including 4,506 children and 3,027 women, and more than 27,490 have been injured, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza. As of Nov 10th, following the collapse of services and communication that made it difficult to update the cumulative casualty figures (OCHA 20/11). There are approximately 2.1 million Palestinians across the oPt in need of humanitarian assistance, with 58 percent are residing in Gaza Strip (OCHA). Unfortunately, this figure is rapidly increasing with the ongoing Israeli invasion and consequent airstrikes on Gaza that are depriving the Gazan people from their basic rights.

Reports indicates that 68% of the fatalities are women and children in addition to over 1.7 million people in Gaza are estimated to be internally displaced, including almost 900,000 IDPs who are staying in at least 154 UNRWA shelters (OCHA 20/11). The healthcare infrastructure in Gaza has completely shut down after more than a month of relentless bombing and direct attacks on hospitals, ambulances, clinics, rehabilitation centers and healthcare workers. It has shut down due to a lack of fuel, electricity, food, clean water, and medical supplies. The occupying forces continue to bomb in the vicinity of hospitals, causing damage and terrorizing those working and the tens of thousands that are seeking refuge. According to the WHO, as of Nov 17th, almost 75 per cent of the hospitals in Gaza (25 out of 36) were non-functional.
