Alert Note : Humanitarian Crisis in Eastern Congo (DRC)
African Youths has submitted an alert due to the humanitarian crisis in the Eastern Congo (DRC).
The situation in eastern Congo has sharply escalated following the fall of Goma, a key city in North Kivu province, to the armed rebel group M23. This has worsened an already severe humanitarian crisis. Thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes, with many seeking refuge in overcrowded camps where basic services, including food, water, and medical care, are severely limited. The ongoing violence has disrupted the livelihoods of millions, with widespread displacement, injuries, and trauma. Humanitarian organizations are struggling to provide essential aid amidst the conflict, and the civilian population is facing an acute shortage of resources. The international community has been urged to provide urgent assistance, including funding for humanitarian operations, protection for displaced persons, and support for peacebuilding efforts in the region to prevent further escalation of the crisis. The situation is heartbreaking, with many at risk of starvation, disease, sexual assaults, and continued violence.
