Alert Note: Re-started Conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh – an Emergency Response.
Flygtningeborn.dk and Mission10forty have submitted an alert note due to re-started conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijani forces initiated an offensive operation in Nagorno-Karabakh, an area in the South Caucasus that has been at the center of a long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, after nine months of blockade of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan, which was the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia.
The crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh is characterised by forcibly displacement that has had a severe humanitarian impact, affecting the well-being and safety of Nagorno-Karabakh people. In the days following of the commencement of the full-scale military assault by the Azerbaijani armed forces the population had to leave the Nagorno Karabakh. 120,000 people, including 30,000 children, 2,000
pregnant women, and 20,000 older persons, who have faced severe hunger, malnutrition, and deprivation of all vital products and goods during the 9-month blockade, were consequently subjected to a physical threat.
Forcibly displaced families face immediate challenges related to access to shelter, food, hygiene items, medical care, psychosocial support, issues related to employment and economic instability and other challenges. The disruption caused by displacement has left many without any basic items and source of income, deepening their vulnerability in an already fragile situation.
