19-008-SP Drought in Puntland and Galmudug, Somalia (Not Activated)

Severe drought in the above regions with water shortages and food insecurity. Significant drier and hotter than normal conditions prevailed in march 2019 with increased probability of dry conditions & above average temperature until April according to Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWSNET). Deyr rains were not sufficient to sustain the pasture through harsh weather conditions of January to March 2019 and southern areas will experience persistent abnormal dryness according FAO-Led Somalia Water and Land Information Management (SWALIM)- The most affected areas are: Karkar,Bari, North Mudug in Puntland and Hobyo and Galkaio districts in Galmudug. There are water shortages for people as well as livestocks in these regions.
