20-015-RO Floods in Niger (Not Activated)
CARE has submitted an alert on the flooding in Niger. The DERF was not activated to the alerted crisis.
On 20 August, the Niger River left its bed in several places causing extensive damage and loss of life, destroying houses, rice paddies and vegetable gardens.
The Niger government authorized temporary resettlement of those displaced in classrooms as a first response to the crisis and began a distribution of food (cereals, salt, oil, sugar) and non-food. However, the unmet need for food and non-food items (mats, mosquito nets, water cans, tarpaulins, kitchen utensils, clothing, blankets etc) remain important and even increasing.
